I Dislocated My Shoulder... Let's talk about it

I dislocated my shoulder.
Not something I planned on writing about, but here we are. I wanted to share this because injuries like this are more common than people think, and how you manage them early on actually matters a lot.
I recorded a full video breaking everything down. What happened, what it felt like, and what the next few weeks look like for me.
What a Shoulder Dislocation Actually Is
A shoulder dislocation happens when the ball of your upper arm comes out of the socket.
Most of the time it goes forward. When it happens, there’s immediate pain, loss of movement, and it just doesn’t feel right.
Even after it’s put back in, that doesn’t mean you’re “good to go.”
There’s usually:
Irritation to the joint capsule
Strain or tearing of ligaments
Muscle guarding around the shoulder
A higher risk of it happening again if it’s not managed properly
What I’m Doing Right Now
The first phase is simple, but not easy.
Let things calm down
Protect the joint
Avoid pushing into pain
Start gradual movement when it’s appropriate
There’s a balance here. Do too little and things stiffen up. Do too much too early and you set yourself back. That’s the part most people get wrong.
Why This Matters (Even If You’ve Never Dislocated Your Shoulder)
You don’t need a full dislocation to relate to this.
A lot of shoulder pain I see in the clinic comes from the same pattern:
Joint gets irritated
Muscles tighten up to protect it
Movement changes
Pain sticks around longer than it should
The approach is similar. You need to understand what stage you’re in and adjust accordingly.
I’ll Be Back Soon
Because of this, I’m out of the clinic for the rest of the week. I’ll be back seeing patients starting Wednesday, April 1st. If something comes up and you’re not sure what to do, you can still book a virtual appointment. I can walk you through what’s going on and help you make a plan.
If you’re dealing with shoulder pain or any injury that just isn’t settling, book in. The earlier you deal with it, the easier it is to get on top of.
